Wood Frog Sighting

Sand Lake Elementary School's 2016-17 sixth graders were the first citizens in South Central Alaska to notify Alaska Department of Fish and Game of wood frogs calling. The small brown amphibians were spotted by the North dock just in some of the nearby bushes. Over 350 students learned about wood frogs this season. You can learn more at the Alaska Herpetological Society.

Here are some photos of younger Sand Lake students on a tour led by 6th graders. On this tour the younger students get a short presentation. Then they trek outside to listen for wood frogs.

Here is one of the Wood Frog Orientation skits.
