Bird Watching

For tips on how to watch birds by looking at size, shape, and location watch these helpful videos from Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Sand Lake Park includes several species of birds and waterfowl all year round. Keep an eye out for birds during your next trip to SLP!

Waterfowl:

The waterfowl in Sand Lake are mainly Pacific Loons and Canada geese.

Use the two photos on the side to help you identify nearby waterfowls.

Smaller Birds:

The smaller birds include birds like chickadees and woodpeckers, both downy and hairy.

Tip: Hairy woodpeckers have longer beaks, about the length of their head.

Larger Birds:

The larger birds include the bald eagle.

Nest Boxes:

Sand Lake Park also has a few nest boxes hung up. Check them to see if you can spot any birds nearby.

For more information about the next boxes, visit the Nest box Installation page.
