Listen to Wes making a rap out of this book. Rapping is using the natural rhythm of words to make a song. Do you hear any rhythms you might have learned about in music class?
Rhythm Counting
At the beginning of the year we were working hard on counting rhythms. Let's review how to count these rhythms and join me in counting and playing.
Let's sing! Here is a song about the instrument families we just learned about...let's start with the string family and the violin. Click on my weird picture!
Let's learn "Good Afternoon"...Listen to me first, then sing! (click the arrow to the left)
Let's sing "Good Afternoon" all together! (click the arrow to the left)
Alright....we can't get together like we used in class...but we can sing about it! Click on my picture to the right and join me in singing The More We Get Together!
Here is a movement song! A Sailor Went To Sea is a fun silly song. It makes no sense! Learn the song first....then try it with the movements. ENJOY!
Let's try a "Hello" Song! This song allows you to repeat each phrase. Try it...remember to match the pitches you hear..
Here's a fun song called No More Pie. It's an "echo" song where you repeat what the first singer sings. May sure you are using that beautiful high voice you have!
Peter and the Wolf
Let's get back to our instrument families. Many composers use instrument sounds to tell stories. There is a famous piece of music that does, just that! It is called "Peter and the Wolf" by a composer named Prokofiev. Listen to the story and see how he uses the instruments to represent different characters.
What instruments played each character?
Peter
Grandpa
The Bird
The Duck
The Cat
The Wolf
The Hunter's Guns
What instrument do you hear when you click on the cow?
One lone cow (whose voice sounds decidedly like a cello) sings the "Going Home" theme from Dvořák’s New World Symphony. A pig and then a chicken are inspired to join in from afar.
A heartfelt small collaboration, created by Yo-Yo Ma and Sandra Boynton for Ma’s #SongsOfComfort which he began online in March 2020 as a way to offer solace to all.
Let's Move To The Beat!!! Click on the box below and move like the student on the stage. Remember to move to the BEAT. What is a BEAT?
A beat is a steady pulse we feel in music.
