First Grade
Beginning musicians....
I am wishing you a wonderful summer as we close out this crazy school year. Unfortunately, right at the crucial quarter where we begin using our music books our studies came to an abrupt halt! Those of you who tuned in to Zoom sessions got a little taste of what 2nd grade will look like...and those of you who missed those sessions can still go through the videos below and try to work on the combining of skills you have been taught in Kindergarten and 3 quarters of First Grade.
All my best to you as you begin your summer and I hope to see you in August!

Peter and the Wolf
Let's get back to our instrument families. Many composers use instrument sounds to tell stories. There is a famous piece of music that does, just that! It is called "Peter and the Wolf" by a composer named Prokofiev. Listen to the story and see how he uses the instruments to represent different characters.
What instruments played each character?
Peter
Grandpa
The Bird
The Duck
The Cat
The Wolf
The Hunter's Guns
Let's Move To The Beat!!! Click on the box below and move like the student on the stage. Remember to move to the BEAT. What is a BEAT?
A beat is a steady pulse we feel in music.
4/6/20. Move to the beat of "The Chicken Dance". There are 2 sections that repeat throughout this song. First Section (A Section). 1. Flap wings 4 times 2. Move hands to imitate beaks 4 times 3. Move your bottom from side to side 4 times. 4. Clap 4 times. Second Section (B Section...this is the smoother section) Put your hands way up high and sway them from side to side to the beat. Click arrow below to play.
Move to the beat! Listen to "Dinosaur Stomp" and make sure you are moving to the beat. Enjoy!
