A formal lesson observation will comprise of one or two observers evaluating either specific agreed goals (HQ questions, feedback, engagement, etc) or general observations based on structure, key learning and teaching principles and the learning environment.
It is not expected that every goal in the lesson evaluation sheet is met on one occasion but should be observed from throughout the year.
It is important to evaluate yourself before visiting SLT for feedback. Please consider the elements when doing this. When next steps are identified and agreed it is an important part of the process to either provide evidence that this has been successfully implemented or request a specific observation to witness agreed next step.
Forward plans are to support teachers navigating their way through a the curriculum for excellence. It helps teachers break down the curriculum into small manageable chunks whilst providing evidence to show that the full breadth and depth are being taught.
It is expected that teachers will have their termly/weekly plans or both that will provide the detail on more specific lessons. This is not quality assured unless this was identified as an area for professional development.
These are informal visits into classrooms to informally appraise teaching and learning. This might be to check on next steps from a formal observation or to monitor for any areas of concern, classroom displays, ethos, organisation, identify themes for school improvement plans/staff training. Feedback is normally informal.
