What is the MCBA program?
MCBA stands for Massachusetts Children's Book Award. It is a book award program for Massachusetts students. Twenty-five books have been selected as candidates for the award. They are great books from all kinds of genres. One book will be selected as the winner for 2026 based on votes from students all over Massachusetts.
How does it work?
Any student who reads or listens to at least 5 of the books is allowed to vote.
Voting takes place in April -- and adults don’t get to vote!
All of the books are available on Sora.
You may also borrow books from the public library or get your own copy from a book store.
Borrowing MCBA Books from the Gibbs Library
Only one MCBA book can be checked out from the Gibbs library at a time.
MCBA books cannot be renewed (unless requested by a teacher).
Books will be kept in a special display in the library so they are easily accessible.
If a specific book is not available, you are encouraged to try another one or use Sora. They are all excellent books!
