Identify what you plan to work on & how long you think each task will take
Set a timer
25 minutes working
5-minute break
25 minutes working
Check off tasks as they are completed
Repeat x 3
15-minute break
Repeat until all tasks are completed
*I suggest using the website Pomofocus.io, so you can set an automatic timer for breaks & work sessions, make a to-do list, and estimate how long it will actually take you to complete your work
Figure out how much time you actually have and when you will realistically be able to get work done
Be honest with yourself about what you can get done by setting manageable work completion goals
Prioritize the most important tasks & keep your to-do list short
Find the perfect planning method for you (paper or digital?)
Reflect on what is and is not working for you
Take short breaks (5-15 minutes) to re-energize yourself but avoid getting off track
Put away your phone and block distracting websites
Taking breaks is important, but not all breaks are helpful. For example, rewarding yourself for 15 minutes of work by watching a 30-minute episode might not encourage you to get back to work.
Movement breaks are a great option! You could...
Take a short walk outside
Dance to your favorite song
Stretch to avoid discomfort from sitting for a long time
Having a clear idea of what you need to do each day and in the upcoming weeks will help you to feel prepared!
You should use a calendar to keep track of upcoming activities and responsibilities. You could use a physical or digital calendar (check out the Google Calendar page!)
Establishing a daily and/or weekly routine can help good work habits stick!
Suggested Habits:
Drink a glass of water when you wake up
Make your bed
Eat a nutritious breakfast
Meditate
Stretch & move your body
Take a walk outside
Set a daily goal
Write in a journal
Go to sleep before 11pm (aim for at least 8 hours)
*Only pick 1 or 2 habits to practice at a time. Once you've mastered 1, then you can add on another habit.
Keep track of your habits with a habit tracker (there are also free apps available) & remember to celebrate when you have maintained your streak!
