Using the "Epic Hero" picture guide here, design your own Captain Cook "Epic Hero" poster.

You may want to "split" the poster in half over 2 Seesaw templates, so that it doesn't look too squished up.

It must have:

  • A picture of Captain Cook in the centre

  • A symbol, label and brief description of the character trait using an example from the text:

e.g: Symbol: a map or a book

On the right is an example of how you could set out your mini poster.

After reading about Captain Cook's 3 big voyages, answer the questions below. Use the template on Seesaw to record your thinking:

  • List 3 character traits that you think Captain James Cook would have to have to lead those 3 journeys with all his crew on board. Give an example of a situation for each, e.g: "He would have to be fair, so that his crew members would respect him and listen to his orders."

  • How would Captain Cook's journeys have been affected/changed if he showed negative character traits, he was greedy, cruel or impolite?

Give 2 examples, e.g: "If he was shy, he might not have had the courage to be tough with his crew when they were not following orders."

  • Investigate some whakatauki. Choose one which you think represents Captain Cook's character traits. Include it on on your Seesaw post, saying why you chose it for him.
