School/program conducts evaluative activities to ensure the effectiveness of STEM implementation.
Heritage Academy conducts evaluative activities to ensure the effectiveness of the implementation of STEM. To ensure effectiveness of the PBLs, the following have been implemented into our planning:
1. Learning targets
2. Calendar of events
3. EDP for what the students will do in each component
4. Rubrics to evaluate the learning
Leadership monitors the implementation of the PBLs daily. Discussions about the implementations take place at each leadership team meeting. The utilization of the Eleot Observations and in-school observations have led to educators' growth in facilitating a STEM culture at Heritage Academy. We not only observe but make a conscious effort to provide educators with meaningful feedback that they can use to enhance implementation. Educators are given the opportunity to voice the support they need in weekly meetings and through a bi-weekly survey. Educators also provide their peers feedback using an observation form where they can offer suggestions for future PBLs by evaluating PBL evidence/ displays. At the conclusion of each PBL, educators are given the opportunity to complete a survey about their experience with the PBL and any changes they would make if given the opportunity to implement again.
The educators' of Heritage Academy understanding of STEM has grown tremendously through carefully planned Professional Development and collaboration opportunities. The growth is evident in the types of tasks that have been planned and the integration of subjects around real world phenomena. Educators are now able to complete PBL units by facilitating instruction using the EDP from start to finish. PBL's that have been created and implemented show that our staff has moved from seeing STEM implementation as a separate entity to now seeing it as an integration of all subjects around a common theme.
Learners are given a survey to evaluate their PBLs. Educators are able to use the feedback to adjust the PBLs using their students' feedback.
