Standard 11
STEM learning experiences integrate all STEM disciplines with an emphasis on processes and practices associated with STEM.
Heritage Academy PBLs are designed to connect to real work environments and problems faced by STEM workers. The first part of the Driving Question for the PBLs identify students as engineers, chefs, gardeners and other workers. Each PBL integrates STEM in the learning experiences. Science standards are the driving force for every PBL. Technology is integrated through student research as well as task completion. Students create slideshow presentations, Canva Infographics, Google Forms to survey their peers, utilize 3D printer, coding, and Minecraft to create digital products. These activities are offer an opportunity to take students from being consumers of technology to producers of technology. Students create products that solve the problems that they are presented. Heritage Academy students have designed exercise equipment, mazes, musical instruments, and other products to solve the problems of their PBL or STEM Challenges utilizing the Engineering Design Process. Of course Mathematics is integrated throughout PBLs through graphing, measuring, calculating, estimating, and problem solving. All Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics components are included in rubrics that are shared with students.
