Standard 10
Students demonstrate their learning through performance-based assessments and have opportunities to develop self-assessment and self-monitoring skills.
Heritage Academy students demonstrate their learning through performance-based assessments with the PBLs that they complete. The PBLs incorporate the state's science, mathematics, reading, and writing standards by embedding them in unit tasks. Students begin each PBL by listing what they know and what they need to know about the topic and the task. This allows the students to self monitor their progress and assess what they learn throughout the PBL. Students are presented with task specific rubrics prior to beginning PBL. Students have a rubric for each part of the Engineering Design Process. The rubric allows the students to understand the expectations and to compare the elements of the rubric to their actual task outcomes, Additionally, the rubric allows students to collaborate through peer evaluation by giving feedback and analyzing plans and creations. This collaboration allows students to take peer feedback into consideration when moving into the "Improve" portion of the Engineering Design Process. The final task that students produce are designed to show that grade level state standards have been mastered. Students are able to gage their level of mastery through use of the rubrics and educators' support .
