Heritage Academy has established a shared vision for STEM and has leadership structures to support effective implementation. Heritage's shared vision is that STEM prepares our students for college and/or careers and beyond. This is done through the three to four Project/Problem Based Learning Units that students engage in throughout the school year. The basis of the PBLs is the Engineering Design Process (EDP). Through the EDP, students are taught to solve real world problems in creative ways.
The leadership team work diligently to uphold the mission and vision of Heritage Academy. The leadership team includes Mr. Trennis Harvey, principal; Dr. Vonda McKeever, assistant principal; Dr. Yutrela Lindsey and Ms. Roxanna Pamoja, instructional coaches; and Ms. LaNikah Ware, STEM Program Specialist. The leadership team meets weekly and on every agenda STEM Implementation is discussed. Each meeting the discussions are centered around the observation and feedback of the implementation in the classrooms, professional development, and next steps for STEM Certification.
Heritage Academy has a STEM Team that is composed of the principal and assistant principal, the STEM Specialist, an instructional coach, one member from each grade level, and the science lab instructor. The team meets throughout the school year to ensure the implementation of STEM throughout the Heritage Academy Community.
Heritage Academy has a group of students that are called the Health Ambassadors. These ambassadors work to research and share healthy living ideas for themselves, their peers, family, and staff of Heritage Academy.
