The PSAT is taken during your Sophomore year to practice for the SAT (taken your Junior year and used for getting into college and for scholarships). The NMSQT is taken in the Fall of your Junior year if you had a higher score on your PSAT to make you eligible for some major awards and scholarships - you could even win a full ride to college!

SAT
The SAT is taken during your Junior year during the school day (SAT School Day at APS). Though many colleges/universities/scholarships are now "test optional" (you can still technically get in without them), good test scores can still make the difference between being accepted or not or getting that scholarship to pay for your education or not.
You can also take it again on a weekend for a better score. Your College & Career Readiness Counselor, Ms. Kibuta, has fee waivers so you can take it for free. Just send her an email at shawna.kibuta@aps.edu if you need one and/or help with registration. Here are some helpful free study materials below. Studying for the SAT can really boost your scores! A big part of success on these exams is learning how to take these tests!
The ACT is not provided at Highland during the school day, but you can take it on your own. It can also improve your chances of getting into the school you want or getting the scholarship/financial aid package you want. Ms. Kibuta also has fee waivers for the ACT available. Just send her an email at shawna.kibuta@aps.edu if you need one and/or help with registration. She also will have paper study guides soon.
