FAFSA 2024-2025

The FAFSA for 2024-2025 is open! However, there have been many changes and there are some hiccups. Right now, reports will not be sent to schools until March and parents without Social Security numbers need to make FSA ID's (the accounts for FAFSA), but the process is not completely fixed yet. There is a workaround that saves your place in the priority line, but you have to go in and fix it later. Otherwise you can wait for the complete fix in the middle of March. The instruction sheet for the workaround is below this tip section. 

Some important things to remember:

• You need to make an FSA ID and it has to process for 1-3 days before you can do the FAFSA (https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch)

• There is a student part of the FAFSA and a part for parents. Whoever finishes last will submit the form. 

• Students will send an invite to parents so parents can do their part of the form

• Always check "yes" on the question about giving access to your tax information from the IRS. You are ineligible for financial aid if you don't!

• Always click "no" on the question asking about subsidized loans. If you click yes, then you are saying you don't want free money from the schools like scholarships and grants!

• Don't ever put that your parents refused to give information - sign up to meet with Mx. Kibuta, one of the FAFSA workshops, or another FAFSA professional - we will try to work something out - putting that they refused means that you are ineligible for financial aid (except for loans)

• If you have a special situation like living with family members/friends other than your parents, if you are homeless or at risk of homelessness, you can't contact your parents, your parents are in jail, etc.  - sign up to meet with Mx. Kibuta, one of the FAFSA workshops, or another FAFSA professional - you can still get financial aid!
