Desert Ridge is a host site for two types of District Comprehensive Support Service programs:
The programs are designed to provide services to students who have been identified with significant impairments which include significant adaptive behavior skills deficits that require direct instruction for generalization.
Adaptive functioning is affected by three basic skill sets:
Conceptual skills: These skills relate to academic and conceptual learning including the ability to process and analyze ideas and communication.
Social skills: These skills help us to get along well with others. These skills include understanding and following social rules and customs, obeying laws and detecting the motivations of others in order to avoid victimization and deception.
Practical life skills: These are the skills needed to perform the activities of daily living. This includes personal care, healthcare, schedules/routines, safety, occupational skills and navigational skills.
