At Rio, our ceramics program thrives because of the creativity and dedication of you—our students! In my classes, students experience a rich and comprehensive journey through the world of ceramics, exploring both hands-on techniques and the history of the art form.
We dive deep into foundational skills such as coil building, pinch pots, slab construction, and an introduction to the pottery wheel. Along the way, students develop confidence, learn to navigate challenges, and grow as creative problem-solvers. Through working with clay, glazes, and surface decoration, students gain both technical proficiency and artistic voice.
Beyond technique, students explore the cultural, historical, and aesthetic aspects of ceramics—learning to interpret, design, and discuss their work with intention. Students in Ceramics II, III, and IV will push their skills further, developing a personal style and creating thoughtful, connected series of work that reflect advanced understanding and expression in ceramic arts.
This year will be unlike any other and I'm excited to take it on with you. My love of art and passion to teach is what makes me love my job. And YOU, my students, are what makes it all worth it.
Please let me know if you need anything.
