What is an Ohio State Support Team (SST)?
Think of your regional SST as a free, specialized consulting team sent by the state. Their job is to help schools—especially those facing the toughest challenges—strengthen their academic (literacy and math) and non-academic frameworks (student engagement, behavior, attendance).
Here is what they actually do for teachers and classrooms:
Build Strong MTSS Frameworks: They help your school design a cohesive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) so that academic interventions and non-academic supports work together seamlessly, rather than in isolated silos.
Support Statewide Mandates: They offer guidance on rolling out major state initiatives, like implementing the Science of Reading and the K-12 Math Plan.
Focus on Special Education (IDEA): While they help improve outcomes for all students, they have a heavy focus on supporting students with disabilities and ensuring your school stays compliant with federal special education laws.
Target Big Visual Goals: Their ultimate goal is to help your team improve school-wide outcomes in three major target areas: literacy, math, and reducing chronic absenteeism.
In short: They streamline your school's operations so you can focus on high-quality instruction and student success.
