Community Impact Requirements
This option can only be utilized if the organization does not allow in person contact.
The focus of the South Windsor High School Capstone Virtual Community Impact Project is to engage each student in a personalized learning experience. This project allows students the opportunity to apply their social, civic, and academic skills while exploring an area of interest outside the boundaries of their formal educational program.
This experience offers:
The opportunity to virtually collaborate with others.
Participation in a community impact virtual project.
What is a Virtual Community Impact Project?
The Virtual Community Impact Project is any carefully monitored service experience in which an individual has intentional learning goals and reflects on what they are learning through the experience. Students that choose this option will identify, research and undertake a virtual project to impact a particular issue in the community. This project is not just organizing an event or clinic, but must also demonstrate that members of the community actively participated and took part in the project that you created. This can be done by videos, pictures or other participant feedback artifacts (survey, google form etc..).
Types of Virtual Community Impact Projects:
Virtual clinics to instruct youth athletes. (Create practice plans and record instructional videos as well as demonstrating the impact that you had on younger athletes. Such as providing feedback, giving instructional advice, and actively participating in a discourse with the youth athletes.)
Virtual lessons for art, music, etc… ( Write up your lesson and demonstrate how you instructed new artists in the community using distance learning technology)
Raise awareness for issues impacting your community. (Peer, Town, State, National, World)
Work virtually with the director of soup kitchen, food share, food pantries, etc.. to create a non- contact method of support for that organization.
