This section has detail about the FILTER MENU. There are 5 ways to filter data in Aspen, one of these is to apply a Filter from the Filter Menu. A Filter is a short cut to a Query or Snaphot. To help differentiate the action of filtering and Filters, watch this video (1:32).
1. Filter Basics
Filters allow us to work with only the data that we need. Filters give a different outcome than Searches. A filter is used to reduce the size of the data set - records that do not match are eliminated from the data set. Filters in the Filter Menu have predefined criteria that must be matched.
Here is an a example of a Filter that eliminates all of the students that are not in Grade 7.
2. Ordering and Hiding Filters
Filters are added at the District, School and User level. This is why you will find Filters added to your list that you may not need. You can hide and change the order of your Filters so they are easier to find and use. Watch this video to learn how to hide and change the order of your filters. (1:41)
3. Creating a Filter
Creating a Filter requires that you use a Query or Snapshot. You can learn how to do this here.
