WHAT DO COUNSELORS DO?
VISION STATEMENT
The vision of the Osseo Senior High School Counseling Department is for all students to be resilient, responsible, and connected to their school and larger communities. With the help of families, community partnerships, and proactive interventions, every student in our school will develop a sense of self while also developing global and cultural consciousness. Our students are compassionate, confident, resourceful and are prepared for post-secondary opportunities and the changing workforce.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Osseo Senior High Counseling department supports students in their academic, social/emotional and career development pursuits so that they are able to achieve in the classroom and are prepared for life after high school.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Counselors meet with students individually and in groups to teach skills for academic success.
Counselors meet with students to create a four-year plan for high school.
Counselors connect with students, teachers and families to support student success.
COLLEGE & CAREER SUPPORT
Counselors meet with students to help them think about how their interests may connect to a future career.
Counselors help students think about how to find a college that works for them.
Counselors provide resources to students about taking the ACT, using MNCIS, etc.
Career Counselor, Michelle Mazanec, runs workshops each trimester by grade level to help students prepare for life after high school, invites adults from a variety of careers to come and speak to students, invites a variety of colleges to visit, sets up a career fair each fall, hosts mock interviews and much more
PERSONAL & SOCIAL SUPPORT
Meet individually with students to listen and support their personal or social concerns.
Counselors run groups to helps support students personal and social concerns.
Counselors may refer students and families to other supports in the school or in the community
Counselors help new students get connected to OSH.
GROUPS/ WORKSHOPS/ MINI SESSIONS
Groups and Workshops will be based on student need and are often formed based on results of the Counseling Student Survey which is taken in September.
