Tidbits!

This is a collage portrait created by Vic Muniz. This collage is huge! The ringlets in her hair are carefully place car tires. As you look around her head, you'll find a variety of objects: a toilet, a guitar, a sink, traffic cones, a doll, a steel drum, a trash can, a steering wheel.... every time I look at it, I see more and more!

Tidbits = Stuff

Our Family Fall Festival, it getting chilly! The theme is Winter Wonderland and here in the desert, we really have to use our imaginations! For this project, students will come up with a WINTERY ART THEMED piece, but instead of paint, we will use tidbits to fill out our designs. We will work on a much smaller scale than Muniz though! The tidbits you choose need to be small (1/4 inch - 2 inches). Color is important (fluorescent orange just doesn't say wintery). Choose whites, creams, pale grays, pastel colors, colors that remind you of winter. The objects themselves can be important too: crystals, silver glitter, jingle bells, sugar, candy canes, snowflake shaped sequence, snowman stickers, cotton balls, etc...

Note: Be mindful of what you use. All objects should be clean. No batteries. No liquid. No food expect for hard candies. No shards of glass, or sharp pieces of metal (nothing that can cut, poke, or otherwise cause harm to self or others).

Here is a student example of a tidbit project we did a while back. This bird was created with jewelry, buttons, clear glass, crystals, and more.

Another student example, though not of winter, this piece shows a variety of white objects to create texture and visual appeal.

What will you come up with?
