Vocational Pathways

What are the Vocational Pathways?

The Vocational Pathways provide a way to plan your pathway through and beyond school and build a foundation for further education and the world of work. The pathways help show how learning and achievement is valued in the “real world” by aligning Level 1, 2 and 3 achievement and unit standards with six broad industry groupings:

  • Creative Industries

  • Construction & Infrastructure

  • Manufacturing & Technology

  • Primary Industries

  • Services Industries

  • Social & Community Services

These six pathways represent ways to structure and achieve NCEA by providing coherent pathways for students to use to align goals and aspirations. Students who have identified interest in pursuing particular pathways can use the information to ensure courses they are selecting align with the needs of that pathway. Aotea College course details include the number of credits each course offers in each pathway. Students can monitor their Vocational Pathway development on the results profile with NZQA and on Career Central. One to one conversations with Pathways staff, Hui Ako teachers, whanau leaders and whanau will refer to this information.

What is a Vocational Pathways Award?

The Vocational Pathways Award exists at NCEA Level 2. The Award allows tertiary providers and employers to assess a student’s skills and knowledge that align with their industry requirements.

A Vocational Pathways Award can be attained in addition to gaining NCEA Level 2 by the inclusion of 60 credits from the specific Vocational Pathwa’s recommended standards and 20 credits from Level 2 sector related standards. Details about Vocational Pathways, follow this link.
