COURSE AIM: This programme is being run in conjunction with Site Safe. It will be held onsite at both Whitireia and WelTec campuses.
The Building Construction Passport (BCP) is ideal for all students with a genuine interest in securing ongoing training or future work in the Construction/ Trades area. This could include Gateway students or students on work placements in the Construction/Trades industry.
The aim of the BCP is to ensure students, have a basic understanding of the health and safety issues they are likely to face, so no one is endangering themselves or their work mates.
COURSE CONTENT: The BCP covers the everyday risks students are likely to be exposed to on site. These include:
• Consequences of Injuries – students will review a real-life case study to understand the consequences of an injury. Learn how to avoid injuries by employers and workers working together to ensure they are all safe.
• Hazard Identification and Reporting – students will be involved in a discussion on the importance of identifying and reporting of hazards.
• Training and Competency – this will assist students to recognise when they need additional training and help in various situations e.g. Using harnesses, dangerous plant etc.
• Construction Hazards and Controls – examine construction activities and specific hazards and the required controls for each activity. Including in the following situations: (Manual Material Handling, Health – both Physical and Biological hazards, Fire Prevention, Drugs and Alcohol) Electrical, Mechanical Plant (including Powder Powered Tools), Mobile Plant, Excavations, Rigging, Ladders, Scaffolds and Harnesses
• Behavioral safety, risk assessment and legal requirements, as well as important technical risks and hazards
