THE SARGESON PRIZE

The Sargeson Prize is back for 2020! New Zealand's richest short-story prize is sponsored by the University of Waikato and includes an Open Division and a Secondary Schools Division.

For Secondary School entries, the maximum length is 3000 words and the prizes are $500 (first), $200 (second) and $100 (third). The Secondary Schools winner will also receive a one-week summer writing residency at the University of Waikato, including accommodation and meals, office space, and feedback on their writing. Open to 16 - 18 year olds.

This year the competition will be judged by Owen Marshall (New Zealand short-story writer). Entries are open 1 April - 30 June.

Here is the link to the competition details and entry.

E-SPORTS AT WAIKATO

The University of Waikato is the only university in NZ with a dedicated Esports presence. The OMEN Esports Arena is the home of the UoW Esports club and provides our students with not only an incredible facility to play games but also a community to be part of.

In 2020 we will run a myriad of tournaments and events. These cover multiple games and many are open to the public (R16). Keep an eye on our social media channels for event posts.

Our big news for 2020 is that we are hosting the New Zealand High School League of Legends Championship! Registrations are open now so make sure you go to our website for all the details.
