For our first project, we made collages for an art book we haven't made.
We spent like 4 years choosing either scrapbook pieces, or magazine images, and then we put them all into a giant prison orange packet.
We then got square cardboard looking pieces, and we laid out the images we had picked.
We then got to glue all of the pieces onto that, and in total we made 4 collages.
And then we put them up in the art show :)
I added a lot of flowers because it kinda reminded me of family trees, and I obviously have one. I added a lot of other colorful plants because I feel like I have a 'colorful personality'. I like to blend in, but I also love sticking out. I added a lot of rocky terrain because I was born in Utah, and over there the mountains are really close, and huge. I added a giant moon because of the classic "I love you to the moon and back." My mom loved to tell that to me when I was younger. I also added the eyes because I felt like the moon was alive, like it was watching over me. (It sounds kinda cringey but it used to comfort me when I was little.)
I added the music note/sheet because I love music. (That's why its cut into a heart) You will literally always find me with at least one headphone in. I also added the steel sitting person because it reminded me of my old school. It has a empty, lonely feeling, but its also a warm, and happy feeling. Its like if you took both and put them into a blender. I also added a turtle because my mom had a turtle when she was younger. (it ran away)
Ignore how blurry it is
Even though this is my second collage Im gonna make it my front cover
I obviously added my name because its my name. I added a jellyfish because my dad got stung by one when he was younger and it reminded me of it. I added another turtle to kinda pull the 2 collages together since they're very different from each other. I added a ship because I really like Titanic, I've always thought it was really cool. I added a small child with a dog head because I was a really loud kid, and I personally think dogs are loud. I added a camera in their hand because I love taking pictures. Sunsets, mountains, cats, or just random things. I added pelicans because I loved them when I was younger. I put a eye there because I feel like everyone compliments my eyes, and I felt like it fit the theme. I put "Sweet and Lovely" because I used to get called those a lot. (I still kinda still do) I once again added mountains because of Utah. I also added the lady in the bottom left corner because the lady kinda reminded me of my great grandma, and I've always been a fan of old cars. I added a lot of frogs because I feel like they're amazing creatures, and I've always wanted one. I also added a fox because I love their orange fur.
I chose this piece because I've always loved graffiti. I've always loved spraying paint at things. I drew it with colored pencils and sharpies. I first started by sketching out the spray cans by using 1 point perspective, and then I drew all the little people. I made the sign, and then I painfully colored all of it. I learned that I can color with colored pencils. I used to stay away from coloring, scared that it would look terrible. This is probably the first colored piece I've done since I was like 7. Theres a very faint blue sky, I didn't want to pull away from the rest of the drawing. I drew a little man on the moon because I felt like the moon was always there for me when I was younger. (adding to my collage section) I personally try to pull all of my pieces together. :)
My sad pot
I didn't get to make my original idea because I ran out of time, so its kinda rushed. Origanally, I was going to make a spray can to go with my drawing. First I started out by rolling coils. (Clay looking worms that you score, slip, and stick together) After getting all of my coils together, I made a weird looking rim to give it some originality. Anne then kilned them, cooking them between 2124℉ and 2264℉ so it cooks all the way through. I then picked out multiple glaze colors, ( it seals the piece, making it water and food safe :) ) Most people paddled their pieces, but I ran out of time. That's why it looks a little bit wobbly- I kind of rushed the glazing, but I still like the bright yellow and the blue see-throughish inside. Its not the prettiest, but its one of the first things I've ever made with clay. I have a long way to go. 🥲
