Young Ambassadors
The Young Ambassador Programme is a national Sportscotland initiative where selected pupils from all of Angus’s secondary schools receive comprehensive leadership experience within sport, education and community settings. The Young Ambassadors gain a vast range of skills based on the ever-important promotion, motivation and inspiration for young people in sport.
Ambassadors work alongside their Active Schools Coordinator and school staff where they receive support and guidance throughout their role allowing them to gain new skills and experiences whilst making a difference in their local school and community. Young Ambassadors gain valuable life and employability skills such as communication, organisation and teamwork, both through strategic and operational roles.
Role of Young Ambassador
At the heart of the Young Ambassador programme is the principle that their views, and those of other young people are heard, valued and influence decision making. Young Ambassadors will become role models and leaders for other young people within their school and community.
A Young Ambassador has two key roles:
To promote sport; motivating and inspiring other young people to get involved within their local communities, schools & clubs.
To influence six key aspects of school sport:
extra -curricular sport provision
links to community sport opportunities
opportunities for competition
celebration of pupil achievements in sport
leadership opportunities for young people
PE in schools
Throughout your journey on the programme you will also have the opportunity to take part in various skill development and sport specific courses.
Who can apply?
The programme is open to secondary aged pupils.
How to apply?
The programme will be promoted within your school by your Active Schools Coordinator and school staff. However, pupils and parents are encouraged to contact your Active Schools Coordinator for more information.

As the national cycle training programme for school children, Bikeability Scotland is designed to give children the skills and confidence they need to cycle safely on the roads, and to encourage them to carry on cycling into adulthood.
Just like learning to swim, learning to cycle safely is an essential life skill. As schools return, it is very important that children continue to have access to cycle training. Scottish Government guidance encourages walking and cycling to school at this time, and Bikeability Scotland supports outdoor learning.
In Angus, the Active Schools team works with local Bikeability Officer John Bremner at the Angus Cycle Hub, to offer the Bikeability programme to all Angus Schools. John provides training for school staff and volunteers to enable them to deliver the Bikeability programme in schools, as well as a mentoring service for training deliverers. Training routes used at all schools are risk assessed and training resources and further support are also available.
The full range of Bikeability resources are available here.

Angus Active Schools attend this monthly chat and highlight stories and our insights into what is happening across Angus. We hope that schools, community clubs and groups will take part in this throughout the year to learn from other groups across the country, but also showcase their own good practice.
Each month there is a different theme to link to upcoming events, national days/weeks e.g. Children's Mental Health Health Awareness Week. Sport Hour takes place on the first Monday of every month and is hosted by various groups that tie in with the theme and there are set questions issued prior to this.
If you would like to know what these questions are please contact your Active Schools Coordinator who will be able to help.
