sportscotland works in partnership with all 32 local authorities to invest in and support the Active Schools Network. The network consists of over 400 managers and coordinators dedicated to developing and supporting the delivery of quality sporting opportunities for children and young people.
Active Schools aims to provide more and higher quality opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity before school, during lunchtime and after school, and to develop effective pathways between schools and sports clubs in the local community.
Active Schools has worked with schools for over 20 years providing opportunities for children and young people to get involved, and stay involved, in sport and will continue to make a significant contribution to a world class sporting system in Scotland.
The Angus Active Schools team works with all 51 primary and 8 secondary schools to enhance sports and physical activity opportunities for all pupils, both in school and in the wider community.
We welcome you to contact us to discuss volunteering opportunities, links with local community club and organisations, discuss funding streams to support local projects or to find out more about what is happening in your local area in regards to sport & physical activity. Have a look at the The Team page to find out who your local Active Schools Coordinator is.
What is the Angus Offer to our schools?
The work of our Active Schools team is underpinned by 5 core priorities:
To provide high quality participation opportunities for school aged children and young people, before school, at lunchtimes and after school.
To have a particular focus on those groups who experience barriers to participating, such as those with at least one ASN, young people with experience of care, those from areas of deprivation, teenage girls, and those reporting low activity levels.
To develop, leads and support effective pathways to connect schools, clubs and communities .
Develop a network of volunteers to deliver activity sessions at school.
Provide leadership development opportunities for young people
All of our work in schools should contribute to one of the above key aims. The work of our Active Schools Assistants will have a particular focus around priority 2.
