There are a variety of coach education and leadership courses available that your Active Schools Coordinator can direct you to and even contribute towards the costs of. Courses can vary from sport specific coaching qualifications, leadership and first aid.
We work in partnership with a number of organisations to offer training to our volunteers and ensure that the physical activity and sport provision offered to school aged children is of high quality.
Every volunteer will receive an induction from their Active Schools Coordinator prior to starting their volunteer role. This will include information on the role of a volunteer, a tour of the facility/school that you will be volunteering at including the emergency procedures, child protection procedures, the duty of care of a volunteer and any other information that your Active Schools Coordinator feels is necessary for you to be aware of.
We work in partnership with Angus Alive to create a Coach Education calendar to offer volunteers and club coaches courses such a Child Wellbeing & Protection, Child Wellbeing Protection Officer, Introduction to Coaching Children and First Aid.
Sport can have a very positive influence on children, especially when activities are led by organisations and people who place children's welfare first. It is everyone's responsibility to respond to any welfare or protection issues involving a child, regardless of whether it is related to sport or not. All volunteers working with children should know how to respond to a child who may turn to them for help.
