On 28 January 2026, the Scottish Government announced the national Summer of Sport 2026 programme. Investment is intended to provide free or low-cost, inclusive opportunities for children and young people aged 3–26 to get active, stay active and improve their lives; with a particular focus on reducing barriers to participation and addressing poverty-related inequality.
The investment is intended to support activity during the summer of 2026 and create a lasting through to March 2027 by strengthening pathways into sustained participation in school, club and community sport.
The approach for how this investment is being delivered locally is being developed by the steering group for the Angus Sport and Physical Activity Framework. This group includes representatives from ANGUSalive, Angus Council, Angus Health & Social Care Partnership, Dundee & Angus College, Public Health Scotland, sportscotland and Voluntary Action Angus.
10 local partners received funding towards their Summer of Sport activities, to see details of who they are and how to contact them visit this link.

Angus schools achieve Gold School Sport Award
A number of schools successfully achieved their sportscotland flag for achieving the sportscotland Gold status for the school sport award. The awards are a planning tool that gives schools the chance to identify their strengths and areas of improvement and create a development plan and ensure that health & wellbeing is a key focus for staff and pupils at their school. The key element to the school sport award is having pupils at the centre of the decision making and putting things in place, and using the awards as a tool to plan and implement change rather than just gaining the award.
In the final term Arbroath High School & Isla Primary received their Gold sports award flag, just in time for end of term services and celebrations.
This now brings the total in Angus to 21 schools across Angus who have achieved the School Sport Award for Bronze, Silver or Gold, with a few schools looking to renew their Gold award for another 3 years.
