School bus shuttles for KG to Grade 12 student attending the International Community School ( ICS).
AMCOM will provide transportation service to students eligible for the Embassy education allowance who are enrolled at the I.C.S school in KG through Grade 12. Fees are paid by the USG government agencies.
2. Pre-K International Community School (ICS) Shuttle
1. Children of Full Members enrolled in Pre-K at ICS may ride the School Shuttle. Some Pre-K students may not be accepted if their addition to routes hinders service.
2. Fee is $1875 per semester.
3. Vehicle Rental
Full Members can rent vehicles with drivers, subject to availability, at the following times and within designated areas:
1. Weekdays within Addis Ababa Only
Monday To Friday 09:30-1230
2. Weekends within Addis Ababa Only
Sat 0600 - Sun 1800 (No driving after 1800 and before 0600)
3. Weekends outside Addis Ababa
Sat 0600 - Sun 1800 (No driving after 1800 and before 0600)
When ICS is not in session, weekend hours apply.
Requests for AMCOM vehicle rental must be sent at least two full business days in advance. This includes weekend requests, which should be submitted no later than Wednesdays by 12:30. Send request on shuttle@amcomaddis.org
Payment is due within seven (7) days of completion of rental. Estimated costs are available prior to rental. Trip final distances and times are calculated from and to the US Embassy. Fees are as follows:
1. Express Van (14 passengers) : $1/km + hourly rate ( $7.50/ hour on weekdays or $9.50/hour on weekends)
2. Coaster bus (22 passengers)
$1.40/km + hourly rate ( $7.50/ hour on weekdays or $9.50/hour on weekends)
3. Hourly rates are :
$7.50 Weekdays
$9.50 Weekends
4. Full day trip outside of Addis Ababa more than 5 hours ( exceeding )
$10 driver meal allowance
5. Overnight Trips
$ 40.00 Driver Per Diem
Each full day is 8 hours at designated rate.
Pets are allowed in vehicles only inside closed carriers.
Renter is responsible for leaving vehicle in good condition.
In order to offer reliable, safe, and pleasant school bus service, AMCOM has established the following rules and procedures.
RULES:
1. Passengers must follow all instructions from the driver or any supervising adult.
2. Passengers must remain seated and wear a safety belt while in the vehicle.
3. Windows should remain closed. Do not stick heads, arms, or articles out the windows.
4. Eating and drinking in the vehicle are not permitted.
5. Passengers are expected to show respect for the driver and other passengers. Shouting, profanity, and abusive language or actions are not permitted and may result in the loss of riding privileges.
6. Conduct that distracts the driver, risks the safety of passengers, risks damage to the vehicle, conveys a negative image of the United States to passers-by, or disrupts the atmosphere of the school bus is prohibited and may result in the loss of riding privileges.
7. AMCOM employees accept no responsibility for items left in vehicles, but will attempt to locate the owner of any items found.
8. Parents are expected to ensure that their children understand and abide by these rules. First violation will result in a warning. Second violation will result in temporary suspension of riding privileges. A third violation will result in a loss of riding privileges for the remainder of the school year
9. Due to significant space limitations,Passengers are not permitted to transport any item larger than a reasonably sized back pack on the school shuttle on a regular or recurring basis. In the event that a passanger must transport a larger item(s) to/from school on a particular day, you must contact the school bus coordinator in advance to determine if the request can be honored.
In the venet that the passanger must transport larger equipment due to a medical condition or need, then they should work directly with the Health unit to request a reasonable accommodation.
10. For the purpose of planning and accountability, parents must notify the school bus coordinator of their child/ren’s ASA schedule within two weeks of the start of the ASA season
PROCEDURES:
1.Parents should ensure that their children are ready to be picked up according to the schedule established by the AMCOM. To avoid inconveniencing other passengers, the driver will not wait more than two minutes past the scheduled pick-up time before proceeding to the next stop. Children will meet the vehicle just outside their residence compound gate.
2.The school bus will transport children to their homes at the conclusion of the scheduled school day. The bus will depart the school grounds as scheduled. Passengers who miss the bus must make their own arrangements for transport home. Afternoon Buses/afterschool buses: Middle school and High School students are responsible for boarding on the afternoon buses according to advertised schedules. The school bus coordinator will only keep track of Elementary School students, and if need be contact parents whenever elementary students are late or not present for their afternoon buses.
3. Only children enrolled at ICS and their parents or legal guardians are eligible to ride the school bus. Non-U.S. Embassy children or adults are not eligible to ride the bus without a signed waiver approved by the AMCOM Board of Directors in advance. Nannies are not allowed to ride the bus.
4. Parents of early childhood students or kindergarteners, may accompany their child(ren) on the school bus if space is available and if they have notified the shuttle coordinator before close of business, the business day prior and are granted permission. Space for students are priority and an empty seat at your stop does not mean availability. AMCOM establishes the school bus schedule at the start of the school year based on housing locations, time, and traffic patterns. Changes will occur in order of pick-up and delivery, vehicles used, and sometimes the drivers assigned. Parents that do ride to school are responsible for their own ride home. AMCOM shuttles will not provide transportation for parents beyond ICS.
5. AMCOM will attempt to provide transportation for after-school activities, but some after-school transportation and all transportation to alternate locations are the responsibility of the parents.
6. Notify the Transportation Coordinator in advance of any changes in a child(ren)’s participation in the school bus. Do this by emailing shuttle@amcomaddis.org or calling 0922 72 46 39 or 011 130 7095 .
7.Any concerns regarding the school bus should be brought to the attention of the Transportation Coordinator, If they cannot be resolved, they should be brought to the attention of the AMCOM General Manager.
