Final Skills Test

What is the Final Skills Test

The skills test is the final driving test for Driver Education.  This test is the last step in the Behind-the-Wheel driving portion of our Driver Education program.  Students must pass this test with fewer than 21 missed points (basically 80%).  Students must have a valid driving permit on them during this test.

Where will the test take place?

The final skills test will start and end at Polaris High School (address included below). Students will be driving on public roads in American Fork.

When will the test take place?

Students must turn in their instructor notes sheet (signed) before signing up for the test.  Most tests will take place on a Friday with options offered once the notes sheet is turned in.  Your driving instructor can provide more information on this during drives.

Who will test my student?

A Polaris instructor that did NOT do the driving practice will test students.  Tests are conducted by another instructor in the department.  Instructors can no longer test their own driving practice students (with the exception of range instructors) as per state rule.

Can I take the Final Skills Test somewhere else?

Students can take the test through Polaris High, or the DMV (with an appointment). Students cannot take the skills test with another high school after doing the driving practice with Polaris.  Likewise, students driving with another high school cannot take the final skills test with a Polaris instructor.  The DMV is available to test at as soon as students turn in their instructor notes sheet and get cleared by their instructor.  Wait times vary depending on DMV availability.
