We had a good time enjoying the signs of fall! Thanks to our great moms for coming with us and being responsible for a small group of students. We listened to Ranger Reid Shelley teach us about the forest and fire safety. Smokey the Bear came for a visit and pictures. We went on a nature walk and collected fall leaves. We ate a wonderful lunch prepared by our terrific lunch ladies. The bus ride home was quieter, due to the fact that we were all tuckered out! Back at school, we pressed our fall leaves and watched a video given to us by Smokey. It was a great day in First Grade!APPLE DAY In September around Johnny Appleseed's birthday, we celebrated fall with a day full of activities themed around apples. We brought sliced apples to make applesauce and our favorite color apple to use for our graphing activities and for learning about the growth cycle of the apple. Then we turned our apples into carousels with animal crackers and peanut butter. Our applesauce was delicious and some enjoyed eating their apple carousels as well. September has been a busy month full of review and learning about class procedures and routines. We have learned the school rules and classroom rules to help us in treating others the way we would like to be treated. We have learned about our class motto, "WE ARE KIND". We have learned many songs and are starting to feel that we have a classroom full of friends. We have gotten to know a lot about each other and how we need to be considerate of others. For further information about what we have been learning about in September, check the August/September tab on Mrs. Mac's webpage: LOOKING AHEAD TO OCTOBER:Thank you for a terrific first month of school. Parent support has been wonderful. Thank you for your willingness to be generous and to volunteer. Thank you for your donations. We all have our class T-shirts! We hope you watch those calendars so we can all wear our shirts together. The PTA Home Reading library is set up and you can expect to have books in baggies sent home each week. We should be changing those each day. These books are comfortable reading and should not cause the reader to struggle. If you find the books coming home are too difficult, please let me know. Also, if you feel your child could handle something more challenging, contact me, as well. I try to keep up with their reading ability they show in class when I listen to them read individually.
