Phones. No phones are to be used while on shift, especially in front areas, unless you are a supervisor and you need it for work reasons. No phones in back pockets.
Dress code. Ideally we always prefer you in a clean supplied work shirt and black pants or jeans. If it's cold and you need an under shirt, please can it be black. Ideally black pants but any jeans or pants are acceptable as long as they are clean and tidy, shorts would also work in summer, except short shorts or any sports shorts. Clean shoes too and no leggings or tights. If you have long hair, ideally it is pulled back. You are the face of the business so your presentation is important. While we want our staff to express their personal styles it needs to be consistent with the above guidelines.
Arriving for your shift. If your start time is 12pm that means you are on the floor at 12pm, not walking in the door at 12pm. Ideally you arrive 5-10 minutes prior, put your bag in the staff room and clock on using deputy on your phone and start your shift at the designated time.
Breaks, We want you to have breaks, they are automatically built into your shift on Deputy. Breaks can be adjusted before you sign out in Deputy, ask a supervisor if you need a hand with Deputy. As a general rule a shift that is less than 5 hours long you don’t have to take a break, but we encourage you to take 15 minutes if you can. A shift over 5 hours ideally you take a 15 to 30 minute break. We happily provide one free meal per shift of your choice to be consumed during your break.
Please remember with breaks, we are governed by the restaurant industry award and as part of our commitment to you we try and provide these breaks, sometimes it's busy and it's hard to take them, but when you can do take them. Please remember if you decide that you would prefer not to take breaks this is akin to us saying we prefer not to give them, these are hard won rights so please take them.
Time off, rosters and sick days. We use Deputy for our scheduling and staff time management. It's pretty straightforward but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask a supervisor or another staff member for help. You must start your shift in the deputy app when you start your shift, and the finish and adjust break at the end of your shift. Not when you get home or the next day ideally. If you are casual you can put in unavailability in Deputy, but please confirm this with your supervisor. Full time and part time staff you can leave in Deputy, but please remember it needs to be confirmed by your manager. The rosters should come out midweek for the following week, please give us as much notice as possible if you need time off. Once the roster is up, its up to you if you want a shift off to organise a swap with another staff member, it will need to be approved by a manager too. If you are sick please give as much notice as possible and let us know as much detail as possible so we can plan ahead.
Pay you will be paid on mondays. Often depending on your bank it will go in on tuesday.
Happy work place. We really strive for our workspace to be an inclusive environment free of any bullying, sexual harrsment, other harrsment or mis treatment. So please if you have any concerns or feedback please feel free to speak to a manager in confidence.
Appraisals. We try to conduct appraisals periodically with all staff members. This is a chance for us to let you know what you're doing well, what could be improved and for you to do the same to us. It's a great chance for you to let us know anything else that's on your mind.
