Why is homework important?
“Homework is not an optional extra, but an essential part of a good education”. -1999 White Paper, Excellence in Schools
“The evidence shows that the impact of homework, on average, is five months additional progress.” (The Education Endowment Foundation)
Homework is defined as work that is set to be done outside of the timetabled curriculum. It contains an element of independent study and is important not only in developing effective study techniques but also in raising student attainment.
Food homework will always be in 2 sections:
1. To the written element in your homework book
2. Revise 10 core knowledge questions. You can do this however you feel suits your style of learning, whether that is creating flash cards, re-writing the answer multiple times or creating games for you to remember them.
Homework is set in order to:
Encourage pupils to develop effective study skills and time management techniques and the self-discipline needed to be lifelong learners.
Consolidate, reinforce and extend the material covered in lessons.
Prepare students for new learning activities.
Enhance opportunities for independent learning
Involve parents and carers in pupil learning.
Create channels for home-school dialogue

Homework/Core Knowledge Books
In this book you will find the written elements that needs completing each week.
You can use your green revision guides or any class notes to help.
This homework is designed to expand knowledge, not simply to recall.
You will have 1 week to complete each homework.
These tasks will have mixed questions both long and short, to improve not only recalling knowledge but long mark question answering skills and techniques so you are best prepared for their summer assessment.
Each student will have a core knowledge booklet. They will get given up to 10 questions to learn and revise for a core knowledge assessment the following week, where they will be tested on 5 out of the 10 questions.
You can revise any way you want. Whether it's creating flash cards, mind maps, writing the answer multiple times or a game!
