October 2022
October 2022
Message from the Principal:
Friday, October 21st marks the end of the 1st nine weeks of the first semester. In addition, it signifies that we are approximately one-fourth of the way through the 2022-2023 school year. As we approach the 2nd nine weeks, I want to remind parents to keep open lines of communication between you and your child's teachers. I encourage you to monitor your child's grades via Parent Portal and be on the lookout for frequent progress reports. Students will bring home progress reports approximately every three weeks this school year for all classes. Parents should sign their child's progress report indicating they reviewed the report as directed by his/her teacher. High school attendance is an essential element in the learning process. Students missing (9) or more days in a semester-long class will not receive credit for the course unless the student makes a 70 or higher on the EOC, CTE State Assessment, and/or teacher-made exam and earns a passing grade (60) for the course. Please help your student make every effort to avoid missing more than 8 days of school, and this policy will not be an issue this semester.
In closing, I would like to thank you for your support as we would not be experiencing so much success if it weren't for your active partnership. We will continue to reach out to you with frequent calls and text messages. We also encourage you to visit our website frequently and follow our Facebook page for ACHS news and celebrations.
Sincerely,
Jacob Lail
Principal
Important Reminders
College Application Week (October 17th-21st)- CAW, is a week in October promoted by CFNC that several colleges waive their application fee for students to apply. Seniors are encouraged to take advantage of this week and apply to schools on this list.
As an additional incentive students who want to be entered for a prize drawing will need to complete the CAW form. Students will need to complete as many of these as they wish to enter the drawings. They can complete the form multiple times as they complete any of the following: formal resume, college application, Residency Determination Service (RDS), or FAFSA completion.
We will have a drawing for these prizes: gift cards, air pods, college swag, or AC swag. This form will be sent to Seniors next week.
Cafeteria Charges- Lunch is no longer free to all students this year as was the case over the last two years. Students not receiving free or reduced lunch may purchase breakfast for $1.45 and lunch for $2.85. Hard copies of the free and reduced forms are available in the cafeteria and online.
Meal debt payments can be cash or check and should be supplied to the cafeteria cashier or School Nutrition Manager. Those enrolled in the K12PaymentCenter prepayment system can settle meal debts using a credit card online.
