Modern & Contemporary Dance for Aspiring Dancers

Grades: Rising 7 - 12 graders (Slightly younger students may be admitted pending approval)

Description: This mini-intensive for aspiring dancers is an opportunity to delve deeper into modern dance through daily dance classes, creative process explorations and a personalized connection with professional dancers in Pittsburgh. This workshop prioritizes joyful and mindful physicality through a range of classes and explorations in modern and contemporary dance.

Each day will begin with a focus on body awareness to prepare the body and mind for the day. A daily modern dance technique class taught by Artistic Director, Michele de la Reza, will be a fun, high energy experience designed to be adapted for different living spaces. The class will include creative process explorations, improvisation and the introduction of choreographic tools. Each day will conclude with a Pittsburgh based guest artist, leading a class and conversation that offers different perspectives on dance and building a career as a movement artist in Pittsburgh. This 2.5 hour workshop offers a range of classes, perspectives and experiences, including time for conversation and water breaks.
