Maths for Chemistry

Why study Maths for Chemistry?

Experience tells us that if you are taking Chemistry but not Maths, you may struggle with the mathematical content of the course. This course therefore helps you to make Chemistry much easier because you have the time to exercise your numeracy skills as well as algebra and practice in manipulating equations.

Entry requirements

This course is intended for Chemistry students who are not taking Maths A Level. Therefore, you should have a grade 7 or above in GCSE Chemistry and grade 7 or below in GCSE Maths.

Special features of the course

Chemistry requires you to be good with numbers because you're always converting between units (moles, atoms, grams, kilograms) and many equations will require fundamental algebra and the ability to manipulate equations. Focusing on the applications of mathematics in a Chemistry context prevents the loss of fluency and understanding in the mathematical ideas and skills you developed at GCSE as they are not continually, and explicitly, reinforced.

Costs

There are no expected costs
