Curriculum Intent

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ~ Plato

At New Forest Academy, we believe that all of our students deserve a curriculum that meets their differing needs and enables them to fulfil their unique potential. We want our students to be successful members of the community and to maximise their life opportunities.

Music is a universal language,  a subject for which our students can make progress from their individual starting points. Research findings have demonstrated that music supports our physical, mental and emotional health. It can help in regulating our emotions, improving our mood, and enhancing productivity and concentration, Through the study of music, as well as creating well-rounded individuals we aim to enable students to develop a number of cross curricular skills such as  problem solving, perseverance, self discipline, team work, communication, listening skill and  organisation,  Furthermore we aim to help students develop their self confidence and sense of achievement through performance.

Currently the music curriculum is supported through the provision of enrichment experiences. By studying with our visiting tutors, students are able to improve their fluency and accuracy of performance through the teaching of correct technique. Alongside this they develop cultural capital and are encouraged to understand contrasting genres, styles and traditions of music across the world. We aim to provide the students with the skills and knowledge enabling them to explore music beyond the classroom and enjoy music as a pastime or profession.
