Design & Technology

Curriculum Intent

“Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose”

~ Charles Eames

3D Design (Design Technology) is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject that uses creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems.

High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation. Drawing on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art, pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.

At New Forest Academy we want future designers to understand the modern and future design industry. CAD (Computer aided design) and CAM (Computer aided manufacture) are integral parts of a students journey as well as studying the structural, functional and aesthetic properties of a variety of sustainable materials and their use in manufacturing processes. Our aim is to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge through the use of practical, theoretical and project-based learning to inspire designers to design products that could change our world for the better.
