Summer Holiday challenges

As you know we are very proud of the achievements your children have attained this year and have been blown away by their hard work, dedication and love for learning. Whilst we will all be appreciative of the Summer Holidays for some rest, refreshment and relaxation, we do not want to lose the momentum of the progress the children have made and so would  like to make you aware of the exciting learning opportunities we have on offer to support your child over the summer holidays and to aid their transition into their new classes in September.

1.New class summer holiday challenges

During their transition visits to meet their new class teacher and classmates, the children will have been given details of their topic related projects to complete over the holidays. Please bring these back to school in September so that they can be celebrated and used to launch the children’s first topics. Details linked below:

EYFS:Chatterboxes  KS1: Rainforests YEAR 3/4: Polar Regions YEAR 5/6: Wild West

2.Summer reading challenge:

During a recent assembly, the children were very excited to have a visit from our local librarians who shared information about this year’s summer reading Challenge “Ready Set Read”.  We would like to encourage all children to sign up to this through their local library. Children will set themselves  a reading goal and borrow and read library books of their own choice during the summer, collecting special stickers to complete their poster and extra incentives along the way.Library staff and volunteers are on hand to advise and run family-friendly activities. Children who complete the Summer Reading Challenge are presented with a certificate and/or a medal from their local library and the official Challenge website hosts digital rewards, author videos, games and more for children to enjoy all summer: Please go to the Summer Reading Challenge Website for further details.

3.Doodle maths and Oxford owl e-library:

Please make regular use of your child’s Doodle maths and Oxford Owl E-library logins over the summer. (EYFS-Year 2) These are a valuable resource that can be used to keep your children engaged in their maths and reading skills in a fun and rewarding way. By simply logging  into doodle maths and english each day and completing your ‘5 a day’ can make a dramatic difference to pupil’s progress and retention. Students can access Doodle:

1.On a PC, laptop or Chromebook:

Doodle maths       Doodle English

2.On a touchscreen device by downloading latest app versions:

Between the 1st of July and 31st of August, Doodle are running two exciting Summer Challenges — the DoodleMaths Challenge and DoodleEnglish Challenge! Both Challenges are designed to encourage a few minutes of daily Doodling, topping up each child’s knowledge and helping them prepare for the academic year ahead. Encourage your child to earn 750 stars (or 600 if they were born on or after 01/09/14) and achieve a 14-day streak in DoodleMaths and / or DoodleEnglish before the 31st of August. Doodlers can earn an exciting pin badge, in-app badge and certificate by taking part! Please refer to this Parent Guide for further details.
