Early Years

Early Years Statement of Intent:

To begin a life long journey of exploration through play, both in the classroom and outdoors, within a language rich, creative and challenging environment, inspiring curiosity and reflection.

Within the EYFS at Hockley Primary School it is acknowledged and firmly believed that “Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.” (DfE 2020)

At Hockley Primary School we believe that it is essential to create an environment of emotional  warmth, with consistent praise and encouragement, so that each child feels individually valued, motivated, safe, secure and therefore confident, to meet new challenges and reach our high expectations with a sense of achievement and pride.

Teaching and learning opportunities are based around the individual interests and fascinations of the child, alongside stimulating and challenging adult led curriculum sessions. Provision is tailored in a way which promotes enthusiasm, independence and autonomy.

We aim to ignite a life-long love of learning within the EYFS, and promote the social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual development of each child. Children will develop within a stimulating and safe environment  for learning where they can engage in first hand experiences, tailored towards the individual characteristics and interests of each child.

We aim to support and extend children’s learning through purposeful observation, evaluation and interaction, which will ultimately feed into consistent progression through excitement and appropriate levels of challenge.
