Mrs Barnes and Miss Gunn held a phonics workshop for parents, thank you to all that came.
You can find a copy of the presentation on the Phonics Page here
One of our local nurseries is raising money for charity, we proudly made a donation for their raffle.
The EYFS children are extremely excited to have had their outside area developed. They have enjoyed watching the builders and see the changes that have been made.
Look at how much the new outside area is being enjoyed!
The EYFS parents were invited in to share a craft afternoon with their child, it was very well attended and enjoyed by all. Parents, along with their child, took part in a phonics lesson led by Miss Gunn and then created their own family tree. Thank you to everyone that came.
Our year 6 children went to Middleton Hall to celebrate and inspire careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Local technology, engineering and manufacturing companies as well as all the educational establishments, offered opportunities for our children to interact with gadgets, robots, space rockets and the Mars Rover, augmented reality and much more. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring all that was on offer.
Each class teacher has selected a star reader and a most improved reader for the half term. These children get a golden coin and select a book from our book vending machine. Well done!
Look at Tadpoles enjoying their reading area.
We had a visit from Bridgebuilder Trust MK, they told us a story and discussed how we are all unique and special and how we should all be ambitious and 'discover what's possible'.
On Friday 11th November we paused for two minutes to respect Armed Forces, past and present. Ms Walker played the Last Post to begin the two minutes silence. Our year 5 class also went to a local Remembrance Day Parade.
We have been incredibly busy celebrating in December. We have enjoyed performing to our families and friends not only in our school but also our local church in Simpson.
We were delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day. Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it.
We had a fun day of maths activities and took part in Dress up for Digits.
Pupils wore an item of clothing with a number on it such as a football shirt, cap, netball shirt and some even made their own costume.
All the money we raised was donated to NSPCC and will make an enormous difference to children today and help the NSPCC be there for children tomorrow.
Our Year 3 children had a great time at the theatre watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This builds on the work they are doing in their reading lessons which is also focused on Roald Dahl's story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
We must share a huge thank you to ADL, a local business, who funded the wonderful trip. This was a huge donation and enabled our children to access this experience. THANK YOU!
Kirstie Watson is a children's writer, author and publisher based in Milton Keynes. Her debut book, The Witch's Cat and The Cooking Catastrophe has sold over 50k copies worldwide. She has since published 9 further titles, including her first children's chapter book, The Tales of The Witch's Cat: The Puppy Problem and her latest picture book, Ogg, The Super Frog.
Kirstie did a workshop with every class in the school. The children thoroughly enjoyed finding out about Kirstie and her job as an author. Kirstie also praised our pupils on their love of reading and model behaviour.
The children were inspired and some children then wrote books of their own. Kirstie has since been back for a quick visit, met with children that had written books and even donated over 100 books to our school.
The school reading champions also organised a book signing session with Kirstie, they had the opppourtunity to speak with Kirstie and get a selection of books signed for our school. They reading champions then delivered a pack of books to each class.
You will see Kirstie's books around school, which one is your favourite?
Mrs Hoare has been teaching children basic first aid skills which has included dressing and CPR.
We celebrated World Book Day with a week of events. These included visits from an amazing storyteller, a talk from Milton Keynes Library Service who shared some new and exciting books, virtual events, dressing up and a story time swap! We love reading at Charles Warren Academy!
At Charles Warren we are incredibly lucky to have a music teacher come into school every week. She is fantastic and the children love learning new knowledge and skills.
Zoolab visited Tadpoles class. They showed and shared lots of interesting facts about some amazing animals. It was fantastic and the children loved having the opportunity to touch and hold the animals.
Every half term at Charles Warren academy we celebrate children that have had 100% attendance. Below are some photos of some children receiving their reward. Well done to all the children.
