PE

Intent:

At Charles Warren Academy, we want to offer children a broad and balanced physical education curriculum that allows them to increase their self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations.  We want to give them the movement skills that will allow them to enjoy sport and physical education at whichever level is appropriate for their potential throughout their childhood and adult lives in order to enhance both their lifelong physical and mental health.

We aim to provide children with high quality resources and opportunities that will help them to:

Implementation:

We use the Get Set 4 PE programme to teach PE at Charles Warren Academy. This gives children the opportunity to learn and develop the skills outlined in the PE National Curriculum. A school sports coach delivers PE lessons and we use external specialists too such as MK Dons sports coaching team.

We are part of the MKSPP.  This gives our children access to competition and festivals.  It also offers opportunities for staff CPD..

The children will have swimming lessons in Year 5 and Year 6 at our local leisure centre.

We hold an annual Sports Day where effort is celebrated alongside sporting excellence and achievement.  We hold a wide variety of clubs such as archery, multiskills and basketball.

Impact:

Pupils will leave Charles Warren Academy feeling confident about moving their bodies in a range of situations.  They will have a good knowledge of a range of sports and will understand how to play them.  They will understand the importance of sport and physical education to their own mental and physical health and well-being.  They will be able to work with others as part of a team and work independently.  They will have had experience of both winning and losing and will respond appropriately to both.  We hope that children develop a love of and passion for sport and physical exercise that they take with them into adulthood – realising their full sporting potential along the way.
