How should the information about the learner’s need for writing AT and the AT supports be documented in the IEP?
Step 4: This step provides guidance for comprehensive inclusion of information related the data-based decisions, learner preferences, goal conditions (if applicable), the required assistive technology for specific types of writing, the support required for use of the AT related to implementation (e.g. teacher training, student training), description of backup, transition information and the specific AT requirements. Information related to required extra curricular accommodations for writing AT (e.g. pen/pal club; product sheets in sewing club) as well as accommodations for testing, as allowed, are included in the IEP. The IEP Guidance provides description and examples of the type of information that can or must be included in the Iowa IDEA IEP. The guidance also provides sample language for including information when writing AT is not required. This is important for future use.
