Information and resources related to Early Childhood and AT can be found at:
The Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (AT Section)
Pennsylvania Early Intervention and Assistive Technology NOTE: PA’s Early Intervention Technical Assistance Portal has a variety of resources that can be accessed to anyone searching for information on a specific topic available on the portal. However, there is a section that is intended for PA EC only.
What is the typical young learner gaining from a given activity or skill?
What will happen if our learner misses the experiences of that activity or skill?
Could AT be used:
While a typical skill is still being learned/acquired?
As support for learning of the typical skill?
As partial support for the typical skill?
As alternative to the typical skill?
If the answer is YES, the team should consider the balance between the benefits of the AT and all the different types of resources required for AT provision and effective use, e.g., emotional, family, learner. There is no exact formula for this and the decision to introduce AT will be family and learner specific.
