In Hong Kong, the school year starts in September and ends around May to July.
Classes are taught mainly in English, but some courses may be taught in Chinese. Medicine requests for basic cantonese proficiency due to the hospital placements students will be put on.
Most courses are a duration of four years, with some exceptions (eg. medicine courses are 6 years in duration)

In Hong Kong, you apply to a university from the application sites on each university.
Each university has its own separate deadlines and dates, so please make sure to check the deadlines of each university you want to apply to.
There are no specific entrance exams that you have to take to go to university in Hong Kong. You just need to apply with your own IB exam scores and at times internal school grades.
Typically, there are two rounds of applications.
Information about yourself
Your predicted/actual IB grades (official results pdf sent by Higher Education Unit not students as PGs are confidential)
Qualifications (eg. incl. internships if any)
Supporting documents, including but not limited to: personal statement, letter from teachers, certificates, etc
Take note that there is also an application fee for applying to universities. The current fee is $450 HKD, or roughly $80 SGD.
FAQ
How to submit my references/predicted grades?
Enter Ms Junita's email address as your referee and Higher Ed will handle the uploading the submission of your references. It is a very seamless process as long as you have chosen your 2 referees and requested for references by end July of your Year 6 here.
Known as the advance round, usually starts in September in the year before you join the university. In this round, you should submit your predicted IB grades as this would be before your actual IB exams if you don’t plan on taking a gap year. For students that have NS, you may apply after receiving your IB results in the following round.
The results for the advance round are usually published in December or January the next year. Once the offer has been confirmed, take note that you will need to apply for a student visa to stay in Hong Kong for studying. If you have not been accepted in the advance round, you can reapply in the main round.
E.g. HKU First Round Application Period - 20 Sept - 15 November, HKU Final Round Application closing date 22 Aug.
With a deadline usually around February. This is where you apply if you did not apply in the first round. Some universities may offer a rolling deadline (e.g HKUST) for students who apply later, but this depends on the individual university. Please refer to the university’s website for more information.
Results of Application
Will be released in the months leading up to the start of September, which is when the university term will start.
