I was playing around with creating earrings using the Glowforge and started to wonder if I could make some sort of beads by cutting out layers. Here's what happened along the way.
For the purposes of class we'll call this one an explore project.
Try out different techniques to make wooden beads by cutting out layers on the Glowforge laser cutter.
Created the cut file using Gravit Designer. I've found it quite easy to use and much simpler than some of the other free design programs out there.
First round of cuts
Glued the pieces together with good old school glue.
Second round of cuts I added holes to the center of each piece.
Put these together using paperclips.
This was a fun exploration. I think they would turn out even better with some thinner stock. I'm thinking thinner stock would allow for more layers and a lighter bead.
I'd also like to experiment with painting. So far, I've just been coloring them using sharpies which works alright, but it does not cover the dark edges.
