1 - Findings & Impacts

The heading tags are used in the HTML source code to indicate the different levels of titles of a webpage. The titles are indicated by the following tags: h1, h2, h3, h4, h5 and h6 (h for "heading") and have two main purposes:

• inform the reader about the subject discussed in the paragraph,
• highlight the structure of the page and the different topics of the page.

Search engines give more weight to the words framed in these tags, hence their importance.

From a SEO point of view, the h1 to h6 tags that are probably the most important elements of all content of a web page, after the title tag. When they are well written, titles h1 to h6 introduce the content that follows them. They provide the most relevant terms for identifying the content of the paragraph that follows them.

2 - Recommendations

In order to write optimize hn tags, the HTML standard says the following:

• each HTML document MUST contain a unique h1 tag, and may contain multiple h2 to h6 tags
• each tag (h1 to h6) requires an opening tag <hn> and a closing tag </ hn>,
• never tag non-specific content on the page (template, sidebar, footer) using a hn tag
• a <hn> level tag must capture textual content (not just an image, a link, a title)
• Include less links towards other (unrelated) games
• include/link type of game in the page
• include/link number of players
• Ensure that the hierarchy is logical: H1 and h2, h3 etc
