The URL is the identifier of a web page. It must translate the content hierarchy of the page and integrate the terms that identify the theme of each page. Google can prefer displaying the path of the corresponding page instead of the url itself, which becomes a clickable element.

Impact: The terms included in the URLs are clearly taken into account by the search engines and constitute an important ranking criterion.

There are several reasons why you need to take a close look at URLs:

first of all the choice of the domain, which can sometimes be a marketing choice essential to the success of a project
the easier the URL to access a site, the easier the user can access it
navigating a site with simple URLs is more enjoyable than having large, unintelligible URLs.
finally, URLs are important for SEO. If the keywords of your page are also in the URL, it can help the page rank better

2 - Recommendations

Here are some rules to respect for writing SEO-friendly URLs:

It's important to be able to rewrite its URLs,
Write the URLs in the language of the content of the corresponding page,
Use only relevant terms, representative of the subject (avoid identifiers of type? Id = 9 for example),
Avoid repetition and excessive insertion of keywords. The shorter and the more legible a URL is, the more weight the terms will have
Write the URLs using lowercases,
Prohibit special characters: no accent, numbers nor word separators (hyphen, comma and plus sign: -, +) can be used in a URL. Replace spaces, underscores, quotation marks (single and double: '"), single quotes, percent by dashes. Replace all diacritical characters with their non-diacritical equivalents (a and d => a; é, è, ê and ë => e; î and ï => i; ô => o; ù, û and ü => u ç => c).
If possible, do not display any extensions.
The use of the parameters is to be avoided, because they tend to generate duplicate content if they are not controlled. If the use of parameters can not be avoided, prefer the use of "#". Indeed, the search engines will not follow the elements placed after the hash key, and therefore will not distinguish this URL 'domain.com/page-A#TrackingParameter' as being different from 'domain.com/page-A'

PRODUCT URLs:

We would advise the product pages to have this pattern: cdkeys.com/category/sub-category/name-of-game

However, for the products that work on different platform (same name, same price, same cover) such as:

https://www.cdkeys.com/xbox-live/games/sea-of-thieves-xbox-one

If a product works on both PC and XBOX:

Therefore, for these types of products, the URL should be: cdkeys.com/name-of-product

URL should be: https://www.cdkeys.com/sea-of-thieves OR https://www.cdkeys.com/games/sea-of-thieves
