Modern Languages

The Modern Languages department currently offers courses in three major world languages: French, German and Spanish. The aim of the department is to promote and foster the ability to communicate effectively in these three languages as well as to understand something of the cultures of the countries where these languages are spoken. The focus is upon the four communicative skills: reading, listening, writing and talking. In S1 and S2, all pupils will study French with the possibility of starting either German or Spanish in S3. Within Senior Phase, pupils may study towards SQA presentation at National 4, National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher in one or more of these languages.
